How does Moby Dick symbolize evil?? When I read it I see Ahab as being evil.

Any help would be appreciated.

Moby Dick "seemed combinedly possessed by all the angels that fell from heaven." Also because Ahab saw the whale as evil and sought to destroy it. :)

If you've been reading your For Discussion questions, it will have brought up the ideas of how Moby Dick and Ahab both symbolize aspects of evil. Ahab, you are correct in seeing, allows himself to be overwhelmed by evil impulses that dominate his own life and risk the lives of others. This does not negate the fact that Moby Dick is such a large, complex conception of the author that he also personifies aspects of evil. For this question, focus just on Moby Dick as a symbol of evil.
