Physics
Catholic Homeschool High School Course
Based on the OpenStax “Physics for High School” textbook, this course provides a comprehensive introduction to the foundational principles of classical physics, designed for the high school level.
Throughout the course, students will develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills applicable to both academic and real-world scenarios. The course utilizes engaging examples and applications to connect physical concepts to everyday life.
Key topics of study include:
- Mechanics: An exploration of kinematics, including motion in one and two dimensions, acceleration, forces, and Newton’s laws of motion. The course also covers circular and rotational motion, momentum, work, energy, simple machines, and Newton’s universal law of gravitation.
- Thermodynamics: A study of thermal energy, heat, work, and the laws of thermodynamics.
- Waves and Optics: An investigation into the properties of waves, sound, light, mirrors, lenses, diffraction, and interference.
- Electricity and Magnetism: A detailed look at static electricity, electric fields, circuits, and magnetism.
The textbook incorporates a variety of learning features to enhance understanding, such as “Snap Labs” for hands-on activities and “Worked Examples” that demonstrate problem-solving strategies.
Please note: This specific Seton Home Study School Edition of the textbook omits more advanced chapters on relativistic and quantum physics.
