Seton Graduation 2021

July 3, 2021

Please be aware that the following information is contingent on federal, state, and local regulations permitting the graduation to be held. If the graduation cannot be held as planned, then anyone who registers will receive a full refund.

Because all social distancing and capacity restrictions in Virginia will be ended on May 28th, Seton will be be able to hold a single graduation ceremony for all graduates on July 3, 2021, at Skyline High School in Front Royal, Virginia.

In order to be eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony, 2021 graduating students must:

  • be 12th grade Seton Home Study School students
  • be taking sufficient courses in 12th grade to meet graduation requirements
  • have at least three-fourths of quarter grades by the graduation date
  • have completed, or expect to complete, high school work in the 2021 calendar year (** see below for information about students who completed their studies in late 2019 or in 2020 **)
  • be current on any tuition or fees owed to Seton
  • register and pay the graduation fee by May 30th, 2021

1 Ceremony

We had previously believed we would be required to hold 2 ceremonies to comply with capacity limits in Virginia, but those restrictions are ending as of May 28th and now we plan to hold a single ceremony. There will be a catered reception after the ceremony, but there will be no evening dance.

Eligibility

2021 graduates ARE NOT REQUIRED to have completed all courses by the graduation date. Students who have not completed sufficient credits to graduate will receive a blank diploma at the ceremony. A signed diploma will be mailed to the student when studies are completed. Students must complete three-fourths of their work, but this does not mean three quarters of work in all subjects. For example, a student taking four courses would satisfy the requirement by having final grades in three courses but no grades yet in the other course.

In addition to 2021 graduates, students who completed their diploma requirements on or after June 1, 2019, and have not already attended a Seton graduation ceremony, are eligible to attend.

If you are unsure as to your credits or courses, please contact our high school guidance counselor, Nick Marmalejo, either at 540-636-2238 or NMarmalejo@setonhome.org.

Costs and Attendance

The base graduation fee is $120, which covers the cost of the graduate plus four guests. To keep the base fee low, and to try to be as fair to everyone as possible, we have instituted a $15 per-guest fee for more than four guests. Children under 6 years of age are free.

We must restrict the maximum attendees per graduate to the graduate plus 10 guests. The only exception to this maximum will be immediate family members (graduate’s parents and brothers and sisters). Although we have in past years allowed extra guests as space permitted, we will likely not be able to accommodate extra guests this year.  It is also unlikely that we could accommodate any late registrations past the cutoff date. We regret any inconvenience.

Families who register for the graduation will be contacted with further information.

To register for the graduation, please return the 2021 graduation form, or register online at: https://www.setonhome.org/grad2021/register.php

Note regarding the schedule: In past years we have included many social events along with the graduation, such as a dance on Saturday evening. This year we plan to host a Friday afternoon pizza party for families and a Friday evening graduation Mass in Front Royal but no other events.

Testimonials

I like actually being there rather than just receiving your diploma in the mail, like some of my friends. It just seems more personal being at the graduation.
Being all together, and graduating together, and celebrating how far we have come was really amazing. It made you feel like you were part of something important.
The Seton Prom has been a lot of fun—meeting a lot of kids and learning a lot of different types of dance. My family’s having a blast.
Now, having graduated from Seton, I feel confident and knowledgeable enough about my Catholic faith to be able to persevere in all of my future endeavors.
My favorite thing about graduation was finally getting to meet in person all of the wonderful people I knew from Seton’s online forums. The friendships that I have made through Seton have been unforgettable!
