Precepts of the Moral Law

Catholic Homeschool High School Course

This course covers the fundamental precepts of Catholic moral teaching. The textbook used is Catholic Morality by
Fr. John Laux. Catholic Morality is divided into two main sections. The first section is the General Moral section.
It focuses on the introduction of Catholic moral science, including discussions of Free Will, Natural Law, Divine
Positive Law, Human Positive Law, and Conscience. This section also discusses Moral Good and Moral Evil. The
second section is the Special Moral section. It focuses on our duties toward God by the practice of virtue; our duties
toward ourselves and our neighbor; and our duties through membership in the family, the State, and the Church.

The goal of this course is to provide the student with the intellectual tools to know Catholic expectations of the
moral life, and to help the student live that moral life in today’s “culture of death” (as Pope St. John Paul II called
today’s society).
